USAGE RIGHTS
What you can do with images we create for you.
How Licensing Works
When we deliver your images, we are granting you a licence — a permission to use those images in specific ways. The scope of that licence depends on the service you purchased. All licences are agreed in writing before the shoot. If something is not in your agreement, it is not included.
We try to keep licensing straightforward. If you are unsure whether something is covered, just ask — we would rather have the conversation upfront than a dispute later.
Personal Portrait Sessions
Images from personal portrait sessions are licensed for personal use only. This includes:
- Sharing on your personal social media accounts.
- Printing for personal use (framing, albums, gifts).
- Use on personal websites or portfolio pages.
Personal portrait images may not be used for commercial purposes — including advertising, product promotion or paid campaigns — without upgrading to a commercial licence. Contact us to arrange this.
Commercial & Editorial Shoots
Commercial and editorial licences are scoped to the agreed platforms, duration and territory at the time of booking. Standard commercial licences cover:
- Use across your owned digital channels (website, social media, email).
- Print materials for the agreed campaign or project.
- Internal business use (presentations, reports, internal comms).
Use beyond the agreed scope — including paid advertising, out-of-home, broadcast, or third-party syndication — requires an extended licence. Pricing for extended licensing is available on request.
Exclusivity
All licences are non-exclusive by default, meaning we may license the same or similar images to other clients, and we retain the right to use images in our portfolio. If you require exclusive rights to an image or set of images, this must be negotiated before the shoot and will be reflected in the project fee.
Editing and Alterations
You may crop, resize and adapt images for layout purposes within your licence. You may not apply filters, overlays or alterations that materially change the artistic intent of the image without our consent. You may not remove our watermark or embedded metadata.
Duration
Unless otherwise agreed, licences are granted for a period of two years from the date of delivery. After this period, continued use requires renewal. We will always give you reasonable notice and fair terms for renewal — we are not here to catch you out.
Questions
Licensing can feel complicated but we try to make it as simple as possible. If you are unsure about what your licence covers, or if your needs have changed since we worked together, email us at hello@delusion.studio and we will sort it out.
